The theme for the artworks was ‘Healthy Living, Healthy Choices’ and the Senior Manager of Aboriginal Health Partnerships Wendy Moore says the service wanted to find an artwork to actually symbolise the western NSW geographic area. The Western NSW LHD hosted the competition to find an aboriginal art design which could help to raise the profile and recognition of aboriginal health initiatives within the district. “We did get a variety of entries from drawings and paintings to digital images. The youngest entrant was a 14 year old boy who drew a body and included information. “The reasoning behind the competition was really to promote aboriginal health within the district. The chosen artwork will be used on our publications and documents so that we can be clearly identified, it will give us a brand and symbolise aboriginal health’s participation in any initiative. “There are lots of creative people out there and to see how they interpreted the brief was amazing,” said Wendy Moore. The works of the five finalists’ have been on display at the Macquarie Regional Library. The winner will receive a $2000 prize and their artwork will become recognised as the aboriginal health unit’s brand. Media are invited to attend the announcement of the winner of the competition on Thursday 3rd May at 6pm at the Macquarie Regional Library. Light refreshments and beverages will be served until 7.30pm. The announcement is expected to be made at 7.45pm.
