Western NSW Local Health District

Welcome

My name is Scott McLachlan , Chief Executive of Western NSW Local Health District.

I will be working with the LHD District Board, local clinicians and our community to provide the best possible health care to the people of Western NSW Local Health District.

Local Health Districts came about on 1 January 2011 as a result of the NSW Government's support for national health reform. NSW was the first state in Australia to implement these new locally managed health networks.

Our Structure

Our Local Health District has been set-up in accordance with the National Health and Hospital Agreement.

Local decision-making is at the forefront of how the new organisation will function, led by a professional Board and LHD Chief Executive. A Service Agreement is in place between the Director-General, NSW Ministry of Health and Western NSW Local Health District to support the devolution of decision making, responsibility and accountability for the provision of safe, high quality, patient centred care to the LHD.

I will work closely with the Board to ensure our LHD delivers consistently high patient care, supported by enhanced local input from clinicians and the community.

The Western NSW Local Health District Board is chaired by Dr Robin Williams and nine Board Members who bring a wealth of experience and local knowledge to the management of our LHD:

  • Dr Robin Williams (Chair)
  • Associate Professor Joseph Canalese OAM
  • Mr Scott Griffiths
  • Ms Julie Ann Maher
  • Mrs Joan Treweeke
  • Mr Paul Mann
  • Dr Aubrey Tooth
  • Mrs Patricia Doolan PSM
  • Dr Darryl Mackender

The Board and Chief Executive are responsible for:

  • Improving local patient outcomes and responding to issues that arise throughout our Local Health District.
  • Monitoring the performance of our Local Health District against performance measures in the LHD Service Agreement.
  • Delivering services and performance standards within an agreed budget, based on annual strategic and operating plans. This forms the basis of our Local Health District Service Agreement.
  • Ensuring services are provided efficiently and accountably. Production of Annual Reports that are subject to State financial accountability and audit frameworks.
  • Maintaining effective communication with local and State public health stakeholders.

The Western NSW LHD Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month (excluding January).
The record of Board meetings can be accessed here.

The Corporate Governance Statements can be accessed here: WNSWLHD    GWAHS (1/7/2010 - 31/12/2010)

The next few months will see the structure of our new Local Health District fully develop. I will keep this website up-to-date, so that you can monitor our progress and get to know more about how your local health system is working.

I would like to acknowledge the help being given to us by our colleagues from the Area Health Service of which we used to be a part. We are working together to build our capacity in all aspects of the Local Health District's operations.

The Board and I welcome your comments and suggestions. Please get in touch with us.

Our Staff

The Western NSW LHD is blessed with a highly skilled and dedicated workforce, committed to improving the health of our communities. Our workforce is as diverse as the services we provide and made up of both clinical and non-clinical staff, all of whom form are highly valued for their role in helping the LHD deliver a high standard of health care.

Our employees are encouraged to actively participate in the improvement, growth and development of the LHD and it's culture. One of the ways staff members can provide their feedback is through their participation in the People Matter Employee Survey, an initiative undertaken by the Public Service Commission (PSC) to capture employees’ perceptions of how well they thought the public sector values are applied across the sector as well as their views on - and experiences in - their workplaces.
